One of the most versatile essential oils that you can use perfectly during the summer period is the oil Tea Tree ( Melaleuca Alternifolia ).
Tea tree is a shrub or small tree and is native to Australia. The Aborigines have been using the leaves of the tea tree tree for centuries to treat wounds, among other things. This plant is now also found in South Africa and China.
To obtain essential oil, the leaves are steam distilled with a yield of about 1.5 to 2%. So about 50 to 75 kilos of leaves are needed for 1 kilo of essential oil. In addition, we also know products such as tea tree hydrolate, in which the water-soluble components have been collected from a steam distillation, often a by-product of the production of the essential oil. A hydrosol, a 'flower or herbal water', is less strong than the essential oil, but just as nice to use.
Tea tree is known for its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Because of these great qualities of tea tree, you can use it in many different ways.
1. Insect bites. Tea tree is, among other things, disinfectant, fights bacteria and prevents inflammation. If you have been stung by a mosquito, for example, treat the bite by dripping a drop of tea tree oil (directly) on the spot.
2. Foot care. With the nice weather, our feet come out again. A weekly foot bath with tea tree oil can help keep your feet in good condition, strengthen the skin and protect it against fungi and bacteria. A foot bath is also good to use if you quickly suffer from sweaty feet.
3. Disinfectant. Tea tree is antibacterial and gives a 'clean' scent. Nice to make your own all-purpose cleaner with this essential oil, for example. Click here for the recipe.
4. Effective air purification. Do you want to keep your house nice and fresh? Diffusing tea tree oil contributes to a clean air. Research has shown that tea tree can kill floating virus particles and fungi. If you don't like the smell of tea tree oil, combine it with, for example, eucalyptus, lemon or orange.
Of course there are many more possibilities and applications of this great oil. Do you want to know more? Everything is clearly arranged in the Tea Tree Guide.

]]>A crystal differs from ordinary stones by, among other things, its coloUr, shine, durability (hardness and resistance) and the rarity that you encounter it in nature.
Crystals are minerals, a single or composite substance that occurs in nature and is formed by geological processes. The most beautiful crystals are formed deep in the earth, where magma solidifies and crystals are formed. Fun fact is that the presence of chemicals and metals in the crystals provide the colour. For example, iron provides the purple color in amethyst. The darker the colour purple, the higher the iron content. Crystals are therefore truly natural products, which can be millions or even billions of years old.
When a crystals consists of one mineral, we call it a crystal. For example, amethyst, rock crystal and rose quartz are crystals. If a gem consists of several minerals, we call it a rock. These have a coarser structure, for example lapis lazuli.
Although not scientifically proven, gemstones are known for their healing properties in terms of health and vitality. For example, the Greeks and Romans used marble and gemstones for making works of art, Indians and shamanic cultures wore crystal jewelry to protect and/or heal themselves, and powder of certain gemstones was also used as medicine, make-up and colour for paint for wall paintings and works of art.
Nowadays, crystals are often used to help you connect with yourself and nature, to relax your body and mind and to heal the heart, among other things.
Personally, I LOVE crystals. It differs per period what kind of crystals I like to have around me or carry with me, how I feel and what I need. Basically the same as you can also use essential oils.
For example, there are gemstones that help ground, allow you to connect with yourself more, crystals that support cleansing, find clarity in your head and body and crystals that represent love and warmth, or can offer comfort.
If you also have gems, you probably chose them for a certain reason or you received them with a certain message.
You can also choose a crystal based on a zodiac sign. Below is an overview of examples of gemstones per zodiac sign. Please note, this is a selection, more gemstones may be suitable for a certain zodiac sign.
Chakras, the wheels of energy in your body, are very interesting to me. Choosing a crystal can also be based on the different chakras. Below is an overview of examples of gemstones per chakra. In general, the colours of the crystals correspond to the colour of the chakra. Please note, this is a selection, more gemstones may be suitable for a certain chakra.
Cleaning and charging gems can be done in different ways:

]]>The basic recipe for making your own bath bombs consists of a mix of baking soda, citric acid and water. You can also add many other ingredients to this. Especially for Valentijn I made a rose variant of it! Super original as a gift, but of course also great to enjoy yourself!
A mixing bowl, the shape or mold in which you want to make your bath bomb and a plate or shelf to finally dry your bath bombs.
💡 TIP: Would you rather watch a movie? Check out the highlight 'DIY Bruisball Valentijn' on our Instagram account .
💡 TIP: If you have the delicious essential oil of Rozen, you can of course also add it. Then first mix 3 to 5 drops of essential oil with 10 ml of carrier oil (for example, fractionated coconut oil ) and mix this through the baking soda / citric acid mixture. Then add some more rose water if necessary, until your mixture feels like 'wet sand'.
💡 DID YOU KNOW THAT: By first mixing the essential oil with a carrier oil, these are diluted. As soon as the baking soda and citric acid dissolve in your bath, the essential oils remain diluted instead of coming into direct contact with your skin, which has already become slightly more sensitive due to the heat of your bath.
* 💡 NOTE: Adjust the number of drops of essential oil to be used to the person taking a bath. For example, fewer drops are advised for children and pregnant women, among others.

Since oil and water don't mix, just rinsing oil bottles with water won't work to get your bottles clean. You need a fat-soluble substance, such as:
To work!
As soon as your empty oil bottles are nicely cleaned, you can use them again. Numerous options are possible for this, such as:
See below an overview of all tops that you can find in the webshop, suitable for your 5ml and 15ml oil bottles.
]]>YES! There it is, your starter kit with your first essential oils! You must have heard or read a lot about essential oils and have finally taken the step to purchase your first oils. For me, my severe hay fever was the reason to start using oils and I now use them for many different purposes. So there is probably also a certain reason for you why you started your search and ended up with essential oils.
As you may already know, you can use essential oils in several ways:
On this page I focus on the topical application, the use of oils on your skin and then specifically for making a roller. What do you need?
It is important that you dilute your essential oil. How much you dilute depends on, among other things, age and sensitivity**. You can dilute an essential oil by using a carrier oil. The most common (carrier) oils are:
Or, for example, use the fractionated coconut oil / MCT oil as a base and add another (carrier) oil, such as:
The dōTERRA brand sells its own carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil) and Young Living also has its own product, namely the V6 oil. This V6 oil is a combination of coconut oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil, sesame oil, wheat germ oil and sunflower seed oil.
You may have already looked around in the webshop and you will find a wide range of rollers. You can go for very outspoken and colorful, but there are also many products in a more natural (bamboo) style. There is something for every style and taste in the webshop.
Looking at the rollers, you can roughly divide them into large rollers (10 ml) and small rollers (5 ml) . If you're new to using essential oils, I'd recommend starting with a few 5ml roll-ons. This way you can first try things out and test them and experience what it does for you. If you like your roller and use it regularly, you can make a larger version.
Now how do you make a roller? Choose one or more essential oil(s) that you want to make into a roller. Depending on, among other things, age and sensitivity**, you determine the number of drops of essential oil you want to use in your blend.
💡 TIP! Do you want to make a roller with different essential oils? First make half of your recipe, so that you can adjust the blend to your own liking. Are you completely satisfied? Top up the blend and finish your roller.

Want to get started with your essential oils? Make your own lip balm. Delicious during the cold period of the year, or just to protect your lips a little more during the sunny times. How fun is it to make your own lip balm!
Et voilà, lubricate!
💡 TIP: Would you rather watch a movie? Check out the highlight 'DIY Lip Balm' on our Instagram account .
💡 TIP: The above recipe is enough to fill three 15 ml jars. Want to make three different lip balms? First fill the three jars with the melted mixture and then add a drop of essential oil per jar and possibly also use three different colors of mica powder. The more mica powder, the more color and glitter!
💡 TIP: If you find one drop of essential oil per 15 ml jar too much (or too strong), use a cocktail stick. Put the skewer in the hole of your oil bottle and make sure that your essential oil ends up on the skewer by slightly swirling the bottle. Then stir with the skewer through the mixture in your bamboo jar to mix the essential oil through the mixture.
NOTE: Always choose essential oils that are not harmful if you ingest a little.

Did you know that you can easily make your own candles? Nice for the winter when the candles come out again, how about your own citronella candle against mosquitoes in the summer, or just for a nice evening on the couch with a nice book. I'll be happy to explain how you can make these.
Et voilà, a beautiful evening can begin!
💡 TIP: You can buy glasses to make your candle at stores such as the Hema or the Action. I advise you to choose a glass that is suitable for the oven because of the heat of the candle.
💡 TIP: The above recipe is composed for making a small candle (slightly larger than a tea light). Do you want to know how much soy wax you need for your candle? Then stick to 1 ml of water = 1 gram as a guideline. This is not quite the same for laundry, but you can use it as a handy guideline to determine approximately how much laundry you need. Fill your glass with water and measure this amount in a measuring cup, this is how much soy wax you need to make your candle. If necessary, adjust the recipe to your chosen amount of soy wax.
💡 TIP: In addition to melted candle wax, you can also use a clothespin to secure (hold) your fuse in your glass. There are also special holders where you can put your fuse.
💡 TIP: Only add the drops of essential oil once the melted wax has cooled down a bit. The hotter the wax is, the more your essential oil will evaporate and the less strong your final candle will be. Shame!
💡 TIP: Is your candle finished and do you want to use your glass again? Simply clean your glass by filling it with boiling water, which will melt the remaining wax. Once the water has cooled down again, the wax solidifies on the surface of the water and you can easily remove it. Just a wipe through the glass and you can use it again. This way you can also clean your melting pot ;)

*NB:
- Essential oils processed in candles often have a less strong scent than the synthetic substances that are often used in ready-to-use scented candles.
- Take pets and (small) children into account when choosing your essential oils.

You've probably been working with your essential oils for a while, have made a number of rollers and perhaps your diffuser has already found a nice spot in your home. One of the further uses of your essential oils is to make household products. A nice natural alternative to harsh chemicals to support yourself and your family. In this blog I would like to tell you more about how to make these and what you need for this.
Depending on the brand of essential oils you use, there are already a number of ready-to-use products that you can use in the household, including dishwashing liquid and hand soap. For example, the dōTERRA brand has a line called OnGuard and Young Living has the Thieves line. You can use products from these lines perfectly (as a basis). Of course you can also put together your household products yourself.
How nice is it to further apply your essential oils in and around your home. Let's start with a good all-purpose cleaner.
Preparation: Add the vinegar and essential oils together in the glass spray bottle. Top up with the (filtered) water. Shake to mix all ingredients well.
💡 TIP! Other essential oils that you can use in the spray are Purification (Purify), Rosemary and Tea Tree (Melaleuca).
💡 TIP! Add some pure alcohol if you want extra disinfection and disinfection.
Another product in your household that is often used and also nice to make with your essential oils is a wonderfully foaming hand soap. Of course you can use the ready-made products of the brand essential oils for this. In this recipe I would like to show you how to make your own hand soap.
Preparation: Add the castile soap and the essential oils together in the soap dispenser. Shake gently(!) back and forth until the essential oils have been absorbed by the castile soap. Top up with the (filtered) water and shake gently(!) to mix all ingredients well. (The emphasis is on careful, otherwise your mixture will foam very much).
If you use the ready-to-use products, use about 5 tbsp of the ready-to-use hand soap and top up the rest with (filtered) water.
💡 TIP! In the webshop you will find various soap dispensers , they all give a wonderfully soft foam. Provided you top up your mixture with water ;)
Even in the proverbial smallest room of the house, it is nice to keep it nice and clean and fresh. With your homemade toilet spray you never have to smell bad smells again ;)
Preparation: Combine the alcohol and essential oils in the glass spray bottle and shake to mix all ingredients well.
💡 TIP! Some ideas for fine sprays:

Can you also enjoy a wonderful bath? Then simply make your own bath bombs.
]]>Can you also enjoy a wonderful bath? Then simply make your own bath bombs.
A mixing bowl, a small container for mixing your essential oil with the carrier oil, a (small) spray bottle filled with water, the shape or mold in which you want to make your bath bomb and a plate or shelf to finally put your bath bombs on to dry.
💡 TIP: Would you rather watch a movie? Check out the highlight 'DIY Bruisbal' on our Instagram account .
* 💡 NOTE: Use an essential oil that is suitable for bathing and for use on the skin, appropriate to the (health of the) person who will use the bath bomb. Other guidelines also apply to children and pregnant women, for example.

Although you can use essential oils in a very versatile way, it is important to know how to do this in a safe way. In this blog I would like to give you a number of tools and guidelines, so that you can use your oils in a safe and responsible way.
Essential oils are very concentrated and therefore very powerful. To use them safely, you need to dilute them. This makes your essential oil more absorbable by your skin and helps to reduce / prevent evaporation, so that you enjoy the effect of the oil for longer. In addition, diluting the essential oil ensures a reduced risk of skin reactions. Also, your essential oils will last longer because you need less to use. Not only safe, but also sustainable for the environment and of course for your wallet.
When diluting essential oil, you take into account, among other things, the purpose of use, the age of the user and his or her health * . Consider, for example, medication use, pregnancy and illness. There are several situations where you should not use certain essential oils. Be well informed about this.
The location on the body is also important for the degree of dilution. The following dilution table (for adults) can be used as a guideline:
% essential oil | Number of drops of essential oil |
Sight | 0.2 - 1.5% | 0.3 - 4.5 drops per 10 ml |
Body | 1.5 - 3.0% | 4.5 - 9 drops per 10 ml |
bath | 1.0 - 4.0% | 3 - 12 drops per 10 ml |
Specific complaints | 4.0 - 10.0% | 12 - 30 drops per 10 ml |
Acute pain / wounds | 5.0 - 20.0% | 15 - 60 drops per 10 ml |
NB Always start with the lowest percentage and build up if necessary .

💡 TIP: An easy guideline you can use is: 1 drop of essential oil per 1 teaspoon (approx. 5 ml) of carrier oil for a dilution of 1 %.
As you may know, oil does not mix with water. So you need a substance that is fat soluble , such as one (or a combination) of the following products:
The following products are water soluble and therefore do not mix with your essential oil:
Of course you can make products based on water-soluble substances. Then use an emulsifier to mix the oil part and the water part together and helps to spread your essential oil better. And preferably also a preservative, since water can cause all kinds of yeasts, molds and bacteria in your end product.
Feel like getting started? Check out the following tips and information for making your own products.
Room spray
You can make a cream spray based on alcohol (96%) . Fill your bottle with drops of essential oil and top up with the alcohol. At the same time, alcohol acts as a preservative, so that your blend can be used for a long time without it getting 'dirty'.
> If you prefer to make a spray based on a water-soluble substance, such as witch hazel and/or a hydrosol, use an emulsifier to mix the water and your essential oil, for example the vegetable emulsifier solubol .
> If you prefer not to use an emulsifier, understand that your essential oils will float on the surface of the water, while the opening of your spray top straw is at the bottom of the bottle. Shaking well before use is very important to ensure that your oils come out of your spray top.
Bath salts (epsom salt)
If you want to make a delicious bath salt, first mix the essential oil with a carrier oil before mixing it further with the (epsom) salt . For example, use fractionated coconut oil or almond oil .
It is important to know when making bath salts that you should only use essential oils that are suitable for use in the bath, and that you should dilute them by first mixing them with a carrier oil. As soon as you are in a warm bath, your skin opens and is even more sensitive. The bath salt melts in the warm water, releasing the essential oils back onto the surface of the water. Since these do not mix with the bath water, it is important that they are diluted (through the carrier oil) before they come into contact with your warm, more sensitive skin.
Creams and balms
To make a cream you often use a butter, such as shea butter or (solid) coconut oil . Waxes such as soy wax or beeswax are often used for balms. Of course you can also combine butter and wax.
You slowly melt the butter and/or wax in a bain marie, so that the valuable properties are preserved and they do not burn. Once your butter and/or wax has melted, allow it to cool slightly before adding the essential oil so that it doesn't evaporate from the heat.
💡 TIP: If you want to make your final cream a little lighter, use a mixer to beat your end product lighter.
💡 TIP: Check out a nice recipe for making your own lip balm here .
Lotions
If you want to make a more liquid lotion, add a water-soluble substance to your oil/butter/wax mixture, for example (demi) water, hydrosol or witch hazel.
To mix the water part and the oil part together you need an emulsifier, possibly a co-emulsifier to get a stable mixture and prevent separation, and a preservative for the shelf life of your blend. Making a lotion is therefore a bit more complicated to do, but certainly not impossible with the right products and a good recipe.
You heat the butter and/or wax together with an emulsifier (for example Olivem 1000 ) and co-emulsifier (for example Cetyl Alcohol ) to 70°C. In a second bowl, do the same with the water-soluble substance. Once both mixtures have reached the temperature of 70 ° C , add them together and mix with a milk frother or hand blender until a milky consistency is formed. Let the mixture cool to 45° C and add the preservative (e.g. Cosgard (Geogard® 221) ) and the essential oils. Mix well and let cool. The mixture will slowly thicken.
💡 TIP: If you like to make water-based (care) products, use a preservative to extend the shelf life of your product. Water can become 'dirty' over time, so you need to protect it against all kinds of yeasts, molds and bacteria. One of the products you can use for this is Cosgard (Geogard® 221) , a biological preservative from Natural Heroes.
