Make your own soap easily. Add a few drops of essential oils for a nice scent. I'm happy to explain how you can make this yourself. Nice for yourself, but certainly also as an original gift!
SUPPLIES
PREPARATION
- Using a clean knife, cut the casting soap into smaller pieces of approximately 2 x 2 cm and place the pieces in a heat-resistant bowl.
- Melt the casting soap. This can be done in two ways:
A. In a melting pan (au bain marie) above a pan of hot (boiling) water.
B. In the microwave, microwave in 30 second intervals until the pour soap is melted.
- If you want to give your soap an extra sparkle and/or color, add some mica now. Be careful, this can later rub off on your hands.
- Make sure the pouring soap has cooled to about 35 °C and add your essential oil.
- Stir well and pour the soap mixture into the mold.
- 💡 TIP: Tap the mold to bring any air bubbles to the surface and spray alcohol over the surface to remove any last air bubbles.
- Allow the soap to harden for about 24 hours before removing it from the mold.
CHOICE OF ESSENTIAL OIL
You can use different essential oils to make soap. Make sure that you can safely apply them to your skin. If you have very sensitive skin, test the essential oil first (diluted with some carrier oil) on a small piece of your skin and check your reaction.
Examples of essential oils you can use for soap include:
- Bergamot
- Cedarwood
- Eucalyptus
- Geranium
- Grapefruit
- Lavender
- Lemongrass
- Orange
- Patchouli
- Petitgrain
- Rosemary
- Tea Tree
Some blend suggestions:
- Bergamot and Patchouli
- Eucalyptus and Rosemary
- Lavender and Lemongrass
- Lavender and Petitgrain
- Lavender and Rosemary
Add a maximum of 3% essential oil to your soap mixture, for 100 ml of pouring soap this is a maximum of 3 ml of essential oil (approx. 60 drops).
TIPS & TRICKS
💡 TIP: Combine white and clear soap bases for an extra effect in your final soap bar. Or go for different colors and give it a 'swirl' with a date stick.
💡 TIP: If you want to make a more natural soap, use ingredients such as poppy seeds (scrub effect) and oatmeal (skin care) and mix them into your soap mixture. For natural colorants, you can choose clay powders, for example.
💡 TIP: Give your soap an extra caring effect by adding dried flower petals. For example, think of dried calendula for extra skin care.
*NB:
- Essential oils processed in soap are often less strong in odor than the synthetic substances often used in ready-made soap bars.
- Take pets and (small) children into account when choosing your essential oils.
