DIY: Make bath bombs
Can you also enjoy a wonderful bath? Then simply make your own bath bombs.
EQUIPMENT (for a large bath bomb)
OTHER NEEDS
A mixing bowl, a small container for mixing your essential oil with the carrier oil, a (small) spray bottle filled with water, the shape or mold in which you want to make your bath bomb and a plate or shelf to finally put your bath bombs on to dry.
PREPARATION
- Place the baking soda and citric acid in a mixing bowl and mix together. 💡 TIP: Remove a little bit of this mixture from the bowl and set aside. You can use this later if your mixture gets a little too wet.
- Mix the carrier oil together with the essential oil in a separate container and add to the mixing bowl.
- Mix with your hands, so that all lumps crumble and an even whole is created.
- Fill the spray bottle with water. Spray the water on the mixture little by little and keep kneading with your hands. 💡 TIP: Working slowly is important with this step! If you add too much water too quickly, the mixture will foam. As soon as this happens, immediately knead the mixture well and possibly use some baking soda / citric acid mix that you have set aside. Adding some 'powder' will reduce foaming.
- Keep adding water until your mixture feels like "wet sand." If you can squeeze it with one hand and grab it with your other hand without it breaking or falling apart, the mixture is ready.
- Fill one half of your bath bomb mold with dried flowers first and top up with the mixture. Then do the same with the other half of the bath bomb mold. Preferably fill the halves to just over the edge and press well.
- Press both halves together firmly. Then hold one half and gently twist the other half, so that one of the halves separates from the bath bomb.
- Remove one half of the bath bomb and then remove the bath bomb from the other half of the mould.
- Allow the bath bomb to harden for a while, until it is dry and hard. Depending on the size of your bath bomb, this could take several hours. If you want to take a bath earlier, this is of course possible, although the bath bomb may fall apart faster.

💡 DID YOU KNOW THAT: By first mixing the essential oil with a carrier oil, these are diluted. As soon as the baking soda and citric acid dissolve in your bath, the essential oils remain diluted instead of coming into direct contact with your skin, which has already become slightly more sensitive due to the heat of your bath.
* 💡 NOTE: Adjust the number of drops of essential oil to be used to the person taking a bath. For example, fewer drops are advised for children and pregnant women, among others.
* 💡 NOTE: Use an essential oil that is suitable for bathing and for use on the skin, appropriate to the (health of the) person who will use the bath bomb. Other guidelines also apply to children and pregnant women, for example.
