After a sunny period, it is important to take good care of your skin and nourish it with a fine (body) lotion. Add a touch of essential oil and maybe a little mica powder for that extra summery shine!
REQUIREMENTS (BODY)LOTION (for approx. 100ml)
OTHER NEEDS
A digital scale, two heat-resistant glasses, a (sauce) pan in which these glasses can stand, a (digital) thermometer and a milk frother. Optionally a little alcohol to disinfect your jar or bottle.
PREPARATION
- To make a lotion, you work with a water base and an oil base. Put the water in one of the heat resistant glasses (this is the water base) and put the jojoba oil, olivem 1000 and cetyl alcohol in the other heat resistant glass (this is the oil base).
- Fill the pan with water and put on the fire. Place the filled glasses in the pan with water, so that the contents can heat up slowly.
-
Heat both the water base and the oil base to a temperature of 70°C. This goes pretty evenly. Keep a close eye on this with your (digital) thermometer. 💡 TIP: Clean your thermometer if you want to measure the temperature in the other glass.
- As soon as both liquids have reached a temperature of 70°C, remove both glasses from the pan.
- Slowly add the water base to the oil base while mixing with the milk frother to make it whole. The mixture will look a bit milky at first, as it cools further, your mixture will slowly thicken into a more lotion-like substance.
- Let the mixture cool to about 30°C, add your essential oil and preservative and mix with the milk frother until completely combined.
- Clean your jar or bottle with a little rubbing alcohol and fill it with your homemade lotion.
Lubricate!
TIPS & TRICKS
💡 TIP: Use demineralized water instead of tap water. Demineralized water is free of negative ions and pH neutral, so no unnecessary bacteria end up in your end product.
💡 TIP: To protect your product even more against (in) visible fungi, yeasts and bacteria, add a preservative. In the webshop you will find the organic Cosgard , also known as Geogard® 221. Add a little bit to your homemade care product and it will be protected for a long time.
💡 TIP: Vary with your essential oil. Do you want to make a lotion that especially smells nice, or do you want a lotion that also has a certain function, for example relieving muscle pain. Adjust the choice of your essential oil accordingly.
💡 TIP: In the recipe above, the water base consists of only demineralized water. You can also vary with hydrolates , for example think of rose water for extra care of the skin.
